The Vietnam War, or the Second Indochina War, was fought from 1959 to 1975 in Vietnam. It involved North Vietnamese and the National Liberation Front in disagreement with the United States forces and the South Vietnamese army. At the end of the First Indochina War, the country was divided into North and South Vietnam. The North was under communist control that opposed France and the South was under non-communist control. The "domino theory" caused the United States to get involved in Vietnam. This was basically the belief that Communism would spread throughout Southeast Asia. As a result, the United States government helped to create an anti-communist along with South Vietnamese.
