Biography -- Piet Mondrian
The artist I have selected for my art, independent study unit is the famous, Pieter Cornelis Mondriaan Jr., other wise known as Piet Mondrian. He was born on March seventh, 1872 in Amersvoort, Netherlands. This inspiring artist unfortunately passed away on February first, 1944 in New York, after seventy-two years of living.
Mondrian began studying at the Rijksakademie van Beeldende Kunsten in Amerstam in 1892 and left in 1897. At this time his work was naturalistic and incorporated constant influences of academic landscape, still-life painting, Dutch impressionism and Symbolism. His style slightly changed in 1908 when he began taking annual trips to Domburg in Zeeland. In 1909 he had his first major display of his work, which was held at the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam. After visiting Amsterdam in 1911, and seeing work done by Georges Braque and Pablo Picasso he decided to move to Paris, which is where he began to develop...
