The Wright Brothers' Impact on History
Summary: A short history of the brothers Orville and Wilbur Wright, their creation of the engine-powered airplane, and the positive and negative impact of this creation on the world.
Crafty and creative, these are the two words that describe the Wright brothers. From childhood Orville and Wilbur Wright had a mechanical aptitude. When little, the brothers did more than just play the toys, they repaired them, even built copies of them. For pocket money Orville built kites and sold them to classmates, while Wilbur helped with the church newspaper, where he constructed a special machine to fold papers for mailing. Orville's big enthusiasm was printing; he made his own press from old parts from the junk yard. The Wright Brothers are sometimes known for their bicycle shops. When the bicycle craze swept through the country, the brothers bought themselves bikes and became avid cyclists. Later, when friends began to bring their bikes around for repair, the brothers gained a reputation as skillful mechanics. They started to manufacture, rent, and sell bikes. Their business was so successful, that they had to move into bigger shops four times. Flight is something that made the brothers known worldwide. After hearing about a German engineer's experiments with gliders, the brothers became interested in flight. They started to find every thing published on the subject of flight to know what was already known. Using all the information Orville and Wilbur started to build man carrying gliders. Then they started experimenting with small engines to put on their aircrafts. Finally, after all their hard work, the Wright Brothers made their historic flight in an engine powered airplane on December 17, 1903. The Wright Brothers with their invention of airplane impacted destiny in a great way. First of all they made the world a smaller place. Before the airplane many places appeared to be far and were hard to get to. With the airplane, going to any location is easier and faster. On the down side, the world is more dangerous. With the introduction of fighter planes and air bombers more lives are lost on the battlefield. The Wright Brothers have impacted destiny in a good way and a bad way.
