Emma/clueless
Clueless the movie directed by Amy Heckling, is based on the Classic Emma by Jane Austen. The film changes the original context, from a 19th C, middle class home, to the wealthy and privileged playground of L.A. teens, the movie simplifies the complex narrative that is Emma, Amy Heckling makes a valiant effort to embrace Austen's style in her different medium, and reflects many of the values represented in the original texts. Affirmation of family values in Clueless through characterization, is one such value that is reflected from Emma; Cher's father is portrayed as protective of his daughter "I have a .45 and a shovel, I doubt anyone would miss you."
In this however, Amy Heckling subverts Jane Austen's character of Mr. Woodhouse, who is cared for by Emma, and a gentle complainer, Cher's father is seen as a wiser, and more aggressive character, Cher...
