Australia's Racism Seen in Treatment of Muslims
Summary: Australia's media, the author claims, perpetrates racism against Muslims by the way it covers terroristic events, such as the attacks in Bali.
Contemporary western society is victim to an insidious campaign of fear and terror. This message, transmitted around the globe by the mass media, is a means for governments to remain in power and maintain control over a fearful populace. The spreading of fear and xenophobia comes in three stages. The government first begins the cycle by hyping up the idea of terror attacks and relating them to the idea the nation and our way of life is being attacked. Then, a web of deceit: John Howard's influence is spread through his political media backers and, the last step, slammed straight into the popular mind through the media.
When a populace is fearful they'll commit to hollow wars and agree to the erosion of their rights, and they'll continue to support the politicians who make them feel the most afraid.
