In the movie Evolution, a meteorite from outer space lands on Earth and brings with it alien life form that evolves ten million years faster than what other animals on Earth evolve. During the movie, the alien life form starts as a single celled unit and eventually becomes this gigantic mass slug worm type of creature.

The next creature that branches off from the single celled organism is fungus. At the landing site near the meteorite the day after it had crashed, there were mushrooms that were growing all over the place. In addition to the many mushrooms, there were worms, another branch off from the single celled life form. There were so many worms that it covered the entire ground. The two scientists figured out that these worms could not breathe, or take in oxygen unless it was in it's own atmosphere.
