Summary: An overview of two events, the Stolen Generation and the Day of Mourning, that had a major impact on relations between white and native Australians.
With the passing of peaceful years between the wars, relations between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people remained at arms. Both sides of the battle had there own reasons for acting as they did. This can be seen through two memorable events, the Stolen Generation and the Day of Mourning. The Stolen Generation refers to the time where children where taken away form Aboriginal families to be re-educated. The Day of Mourning was a day many when a number of Aboriginal activists gathered to discuss their rights on the very day of the celebration of 150 years of British colonisation.
Relations involving Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people and the Stolen Generation was tense as the whites(non-Aboriginal) remained stubborn in the thought that the actions were for the greater good while the Aborigines pained that a whole generation was stolen away.
