The world was plunged into world war two for one main reason. That reason is that appeasement did not work to prevent Hitler from acts of aggression towards the allied powers. Appeasement is defined as the policy of granting concessions to potential enemies to maintain peace. This is what occurred in the mid thirties when the British prime minister and other leaders met multiple times to give into Hitler's demands and aggressions.

Collective Security is a much more effective way to control a country's aggression and desire for war or lands on foreign soil. A country is plainly outnumbered by a "united Nations" of sorts. It becomes not only unwise but impossible to succeed in imperialism without the explicit approval of the combined Nations.

Prime Minister Neville stated "With a little good will and determination, it is possible to remove grievances and clear away suspicion...we must try to bring these four big nations into friendly discussion. If they can settle their differences, we shall save the peace of Europe for a generation." After this was said Germany was in the middle of its uncontrollable acts of aggression. It sends troops into the demilitarized zone of the Rhineland in clear disregard for the treaty of Versailles. France was begging for the help from the weak League of Nations. "At the same time the French Government made it quite clear that there would be no negotiation with Germany." Winston Churchill supports the conclusion. "I have always held the view that keeping peace depends on holding back the aggressor. After Hitler's seizure of Austria in March, I appealed to the government. I asked that Britain, together with France and other powers, guarantee the security of Czechoslovakia. If that course had been followed, events would not have fallen into this disastrous state."

Ultimately appeasement failed and did nothing except let Hitler know that it was ok to take or do whatever he desires. The world was plunged into world war two for one main reason.
