Summary: This essay is about the movie Spiderman and why young people today are so interested in movies like that. It also is combined with Neal Gabler's Inside every superhero lurks a nerd..
Mr. Gabler contributes the appeal of Spiderman to teenagers because Peter Parker is a teenager. Every teen in high school has their own fears. Peter was a nerd, he was bullied and the girl he liked didn't think twice about him. Then, Peter gets bitten by a spider and suddenly has powers. He goes from nerd to tough guy. A dream that most kids have and want to be.

This idea comes across strongly with adults as well because at one time they were teenagers too. They had the same feelings of not fitting in, being picked on and being ignored by the popular girl. Most adults had to deal with the same highschool fears that teenagers today have to deal with. When they see Peter Parker turning that all around they get excited. They cheer Spiderman on too.
