The Divine Wind portrays a beaten and blemished Australia, yet society depicted in the novel is quite sanguine. There are numerous significant examples which show hopefulness, when Hart saves Jamie and when they find out Alice is alive are two prominent situations. The optimistic tone that is carried throughout the novel is clearly visible in most of the text however in parts it is clouded by pessimistic actions.
