Single Parent Households
Summary: Explores the unique problems facing children from single-parent households. Examines statistical data concerning them. Describes how children from single parent family develop differently than those in nuclear families.
Nowadays, single-parent families have become a very common component of our society. "A single-parent family includes either a mother or father and at least one child." (TDC) This can occur in many situations, such as, if one of the parents has died or if the parents are unmarried and live separately or if the parents are divorced. The child who lives in such family lead quite a different life as compared to the life lived by a child who belongs to a normal nuclear family. Due to the prevailing economic circumstances, a child goes through a tougher childhood altering his intellectual development as well as emotional insecurity as he grows up. Hence, a child who grows up in a single parent family goes through a tougher childhood and his development process is slower as compared to a child who grows up with both the parents.
