Reality and Drama Programming on Television
The definition of the word `drama', as cited by The Concise Oxford Dictionary of current English is: "3. an exciting or emotional event, set of circumstances, etc." and "4. dramatic quality." It is defined by www.dictionary.com as "1 b. A serious narrative work or program for television, radio, or the cinema" and "4. A situation or succession of events in real life having the dramatic progression or emotional effect characteristic of a play" and "5. The quality or condition of being dramatic."
If one is to base their view according to these definitions of drama then everything is drama. Therefore fictitious and real events are both drama so long as it dramatic, i.e. arresting, powerful or emotive. In short, television drama is not limited to the worlds of fiction.
