The prince Regent came to Brighton mainly because of Dr. Russell's book telling people about the sea in Brighton and how it can cure gland diseases like the one the Prince suffered from. Another reason for him coming to Brighton was that he wanted to escape the strict London court life and Brighton was seen as the perfect `get-away' for those trying to do so. The Prince was not the first rich person to visit Brighton for this reason, he was merely swept up in this idea that Brighton was a very fashionable place to go (for the rich).The Prince was following the fashion at that time, but his arrival made the once quaint little fishing village even more popular amongst the rich and famous of the time.
