Farmers, while being the corner stone of most civilizations, providing raw materials, rations for their community and creating a start to an economic market, had a hard time surviving. This holds true in the period between 1880-1900 in America where mother nature, big business monopolies and trust, deflation of money, and the middle man caused a great deal of difficulty for the economic standing of most farmers. Farmers created labor union-like organizations like the political party called the Populous Party, the Grange, the Alliance, and the National Colored Farmers Alliance. These organizations had their own ideas of how to solve these problems and in most cases they were quite valid.
