"The Pride of the Cunard Line," as it was known, sank May 7th 1915. This had been an enormous British Ocean liner that was famous for its luxurious accommodations and speed capability. On May 1st the Lusitania deported from the New York port on its way to Liverpool. It had not made the voyage because of a German sub. I will bring to your attention some facts and information about this liner, what occurred at the time the ship was sun, and information on the casualties and losses of the ship.
This was a great liner of its time and had some of the highest speeds as well as carrying capacity. The gross tonnage of this massive ship was 31,500 tons with dimensions of 232.31 x 26.75 meters. Lusitania had been made of steel with 4 funnels, 2 masts, a quadruple screw propulsion system, as well as four direct-acting steam turbines (Pastors). The builders...
