Social Classes in the French Revolution
Summary: This is a discussion of the changing French social classes from the beginning of the French Revolution through the Terror. Though the groups unanimously desired the destruction of Feudalism, they agreed on little else.
The French Revolution was the act that made the world free from Feudalism. This period between the years 1789 and 1795 saw the beginning of a new era in government. This change, however, did not come easy. It came about by the hard work and dedication of every person in France. These `citizens' were all members of different social groups all of whom were looking out for themselves. They all wanted the destruction of Feudalism, but tended to disagree on the rest of their ideas. In the end, the groups with the power ended up in the best position while those with no power had nothing.
The most powerful of these classes was the property owning middle class, the Bourgeoisie. The Bourgeoisie led the revolution. In the early stages of the revolution, the Bourgeoisie and the aristocracy of the noble landowners and high clergy appeared to have the same motives...
