The passage "Clocks Like Horses" was written by Mohammed Khudayyir. In it, the author tells the tale of two men, a young traveler seeking to repair the watch of his deceased relative, and an elderly watchmaker sharing his lively past with the youth. Much of the translation is simple but when going through the reading we can see many the techniques the author uses to illuminate the meaning of the lives of the main characters and relevance to the time period and historical events occurring. First the author uses a mask of cultural effects to indicate conflict and struggles within the nation where the story takes place. Also the author is able to make a metaphorical connection with the old man's dreams and the clocks he possesses.
