Peter the Great of Russia has forever been known as `the westernizer'. From the beginning of his reign as a young boy, he had fallen in love with the German section of Moscow which exposed him to the European lifestyles and customs. From then on, he became determined to bring his love for Europe into the world of Russia. Peter wanted to bring a `window to the west'- a warm water sea port so that Russians could have trade access to Europe. He also despised the Old Russian culture and ignored it as much as possible. However, his many attempts and actions to influence Russia as a whole to become more western were not all successful.
