Characterization in Things Fall Apart
Two people may come to a place with the same cause, but they might carry out a solution to this cause very differently. The characters Mr. Brown and Mr. Smith, in the novel Things Fall Apart by Nigerian writer Chinua Achebe, are Christian missionaries sent to the Ibo clans in Nigeria to collect converts and westernize their culture. These two missionaries go throughout the story pursuing their goals in a different manner. They viewed the Ibo culture differently, they ask their converts to take action in different ways, and they receive different treatment by the people of Mbanta. When they compare their culture to their own culture, they reacted in a different way.
