Bissinger, the Table of Contents provides the reader with a clear outline of the subsequent tale, while demonstrating the prominence of football in a small town searching for a national identity in Texas. Bissinger partitioned his tale into four sections consisting of: Pre-Season, The Season, Push for the Playoffs, and Post-Season, confirming that in fact, the young boys' lives of Odessa, Texas are shaped by football. Moreover, the division illustrates the metaphorical use of the sections of the book, in relation to the boys' lives. In further examination of Bissinger's Table of Contents, it is made clear that the majority of the chapters of the story are depicted in The Season, which reveals that the destinies of the young men are determined by football.
