Is Tony a Tory?

Summary: Discusses British Prime Minister Tony Blair's political leanings. Evaluates examples of his strong Conservative stances. Questions the Prime Minister's devotion to traditional Labour values.
Since Tony Blair appeared on the Labour scene in 1983, it has been the view of many part members that he more Conservative than Labour. Blair, if pushed would claim to be strongly Labour, the traditionally Socialist party. However, the view that he is sitting comfortably to the right was reinforced when clause 4 of the 1918 Labour party constitution was removed shortly after he became leader in 1995. What followed was a string of changes made by Blair, which causes the electorate to question the Prime Minister's devotion to traditional Labour values and the party to complain that he is betraying party principles, to which he feels no loyalty.
