Emily Jane Bronte was born on July 30, 1818 in Thornton, Yorkshire. Emily Bronte was the only child from her family to be given a middle name. She was the fifth child to be born to Patrick and Maria Bronte. In May of 1825 Mrs. Patrick Bronte died, leaving her husband, Patrick, to raise their children alone.
