"Dulce et Decorum est" is a very unusual but intriguing poem written by the famous poet Wilfred Owen. On reading the title of the poem, I assumed it would be similar to Laurence Binyon's poem, "For the Fallen", in that it would praise war, and make it out to be a glorious event. However on closer inspection of the poem, I realised that it is the complete opposite. This poem tells of the horrors of war, the truth of war. I had only ever come across traditional views of war in poetry prior to reading this poem, so "Dulce et Decorum est" made a huge impression on me. I learned the truth about war, from someone who had actually been there, in the trenches, and had experienced the disaster for himself.
