Hamlet : A Comparison of Two Versions

Many works of literature such as a novel or a play has screen adaptations of them. Similarly, Shakespeare's greatest work of literature "Hamlet" has also been transformed in to a film by Franco Zeffirelli in 1990 and Kenneth Branagh in 1996. Both of these directors have directed their own unique film version of the play. When a text is transformed into a film there are many media elements that must be taken into consideration in order to maintain the effectiveness of this medium. By analyzing the media elements used in the two version directed by distinct person, Kenneth Branagh proves to be a better director in depicting the play "Hamlet." Few reasons of him being better in depiction of the play are the use choices of media elements such as camera angles, editing and set design.
