The Southern California Biome

Also called the Mediterranean Scrub and Woodland, the Southern California chaparral biome contains a variety of different plants and animals. These creatures and plants have certain characteristics unique to Southern California and other regions with a similar climate of relatively mild weather. The Southern California chaparral biome is different overall from similar types of biomes, has many plants that have adjusted to their surroundings by using many techniques to conserve water, and has animals that have adapted to their surroundings.

Although they are essentially the same and are placed in the same category, there are several different names for the Mediterranean type climate. The Mediterranean Scrub and Woodland usually refers to regions such as Europe, North Africa, and Asia Minor because of their proximity to the Mediterranean Sea.
