The Presbyterian Church has many beliefs. The church goes way back to 16th century and the protestant reformation. John Calvin, a French lawyer at the time of the 1500s articulated the beliefs for the many Presbyterians of today. His writings crystallized the Reformation that came before him.
Beliefs that John Calvin articulated among the core of Presbyterians include:
- The Sovereignty of God
- The Authority of Scripture
- Justification by grace through faith
- Priesthood of all believers
Presbyterians have an open social structure consisting of many parts. They are called "Presbyterians" because they adhere to a Presbyterian form of government in which all authority is placed in the hands of the governing bodies.
