With the use of many varying stylistic elements in the passage "Death of a Soldier," written by Louisa May Alcott, the author's memory of such a lamentable tragedy is much easier to envision and "experience" than if Alcott retold her story blandly and without emotion. The intention of Alcott's literary piece is apparent in its purpose to emphasize the differing reactions of an individual regarding death, as well as portraying the more appealing results of such a sorrowful event. Imagery and the use of similes observed in the passage not only assist in conveying the story designed to be told, but also in allowing others to experience and make use of the five senses, as the narrator had once been privileged to do.
