Influential Characters in Great Expectations
Summary: Explores the Charles Dickens novel, Great Expectations. Discusses influential characters in the novel and analyzes what effect they had on main character Pip.
Charles Dickens is one of the greatest authors; because of his characterization and the way he develops his characters. In this book, Great Expectations, he does an excellent job of developing Pip in to a man and getting the other characters to influence Pip in such a way. To answer the question who were the most influential characters in this book is quite difficult. Therefore I looked in this book to find a cause and effect of each character's actions.
One character that I selected to be one of the most influential people in Pip's life is the convict, Abel Magwitch. Abel Magwitch was the convict in the marshes behind the forge. He and Pip got off to a bad start but later in the book they become very good friend and Pip stays with Magwitch until the end when Magwitch dies. In the beginning the convict threatens...
