Astigmatism, Reasons and Cures
Astigmatism is the condition of the eye when the cornea is irregularly shaped. The cornea, which is usually spherical, becomes oval shaped and therefore causes two images to form, one in front of the retina, and one either on the retina or behind it. It commonly occurs hand in hand with short-sightedness and far-sightedness.
The main symptom that is caused by astigmatism is blurred vision, due to the two different images forming in the eye. This can lead to other symptoms such as headaches and eyestrain.
There is no certain age group which astigmatism is more common in. Both adults and youth can have this problem. In some cases, people may be born with irregular-shaped corneas and thus not know that they have an eye problem.
