Milatary Reasons for the Fall of Singapore
Summary: Explains and elaborates on military reasons why Singapore fell to the Japanese in World War II. Compares Japanese and British troop training and strength.
It was evident that the Japanese were much stronger in military power because they were superior in terms of air power, sea power, troops and equipment. First of all, the Japanese had the support of a large modern air force, using the modern `Zero' fighter war planes which destroyed about half of the British planes which were old and outdated. These backward planes did not stand a single change against these modern `Zero' fighter war planes.
It was also these same modern fleet of war planes as well as the Japanese's modern fleet of torpedo bombers that sunk the only two British battleships, the Prince of Wales and the Repulse. This was because the British made the mistake of sending out these two battleships without the support of air power, leaving no other battleships after these two sank.
