Egypt and Greece: A Comparison of Two Ancient Civilizations

Summary: Compares and contrasts ancient Greek and Egyptian civilizations. Discusses their cultures, political systems and mythologies. Analyzes how the trading of resources led to the trading of stories and customs.
The Greek and Egyptian civilizations are two of the oldest known today. There were two very different societies, marked by their locations and governments. The Greeks were islanders. They were so close to the Mediterranean,that it affected every part of their lives, including religion. The Egyptians, only a couple hundred miles away, were desert people. They lived a hectic life were they depended on the unpredictable Nile. While the Egyptians harvested on their wheat and barley they new little of the olives their neighbors took so much pride in. Thus their governments were also dissimilar. The Egyptians were all united under their one monarchial ruler, while the Greeks were ruled by their different city-state governments. It is for these reasons that both societies, had such contrasting religions. However, they were still humankind and so similarities are easily found.
