Comparing News Coverage
Summary: Compares two newspaper articles by different newspapers. Examines how each newspaper chooses to cover the same story. Discusses the differences found between the two stories and the reasons why they are different.
For my assignment I have chosen the reports from two different newspapers. The reports I have chosen are on child abuse over the Internet. The two papers I have taken my texts from are, the Daily Mail, a tabloid newspaper, and the Evening Gazette, a local newspaper. The basic outline of the report is how children are being `sold for sex, and then rated out of ten by paedophiles', a quote from the Daily Mail. Both articles are based on `facts' that originate from the children's charity Barnardo's. The articles both lead onto into saying that camera phone technology will increase the opportunity for young people to be abused. The article in the Evening Gazette also includes a shocking report on how a `14-year-old girl was led into prostitution by a man who advertised her `services' on a child porn website.
