Summary: Details differences in development of the Chesapeake Bay region and the New England Colonies before 1700. Examines the reasons for these development differences including variations in geography, motives for settlement, and the socioeconomic backgrounds of their original settlement.
Different colonies of the original thirteen influenced modern society today. Two in particular, the Chesapeake region and the New England colonies, have affect America in all respects. These two eventually merged into one America, from two sets of colonies. From the time period of their original settlement in 1607, the Chesapeake region developed differently from the New England colonies due to differences in geography, motives for settlement, and the socioeconomic backgrounds of their original settlement.

The geography of the Chesapeake region and the New England colonies were polar opposites. The Chesapeake region had very rich soils, which helped crops, like tobacco, flourish in this region. Due to this, Maryland and Virginia, the colonies within the Chesapeake region, became very profitable.
