Children of the River, A Review

Summary: Reviews the book Children of the River, written by Linda Crew. Summarizes the story in which a Cambodian girl faces hardships while trying to adjust to life in an American city.
The story starts out in Cambodia where Sundara moves in with her aunt and uncle because of the war going on in her country. But when the Khmer Rouge come and begin killing everyone and they must get out. They leave for America in hopes of escaping the Khmer Rouge. They are taken on a ship to America and are there or weeks and weeks. Sundara, who is only a child, is left to take care of her newborn cousin and her other two toddler cousins all by herself because her family has taken sick. Her newborn cousin has died and Sundara blames herself or the death of the baby. Once in America, they made a living in Oregon and Sundara attended school with Americans but she made little friends because she was never out and she had to work constantly.
