The reason Great Britain cannot just give Northern Ireland independence now is because if they were to do so more violence would erupt because of it. If Northern Ireland became its own state a civil war would almost certainly ensue. If it became part of the Republic of Ireland not only would the Protestants start forming groups like the IRA but the Irish economy would suffer.

The conflict in Northern Ireland is best known for its violent history. Terrorism has devastated the country since the late 1960's. The two fighting factions are broken down by their religions. There are the terrorist supported Catholics and the Government supported Protestants. This division is resulted from King Henry the VIII`s decision to do away with Catholicism in Great Britain, which included all of Ireland at that time. Ireland refused to accept this and King Henry the VIII punished...
