On August 6, 1945, the world discovered and watched in horror the effect of a nuclear bomb. Looking back at history the war as a minor event compared to the aftershock of the nuclear explosion. The United States had dropped a nuclear bomb on the Japanese city of Hiroshima, and dragged a shocked world into the nuclear age. Rising numbers of casualties in battles had given the United States the motivation to find an alternate and alternative method to bring the war in the Pacific to an end.
