Singapore is January definitely not a popular tourist attraction and this is evident in how visitor arrivals in 2002 declined by 9.4% over the same month in 2001. Singapore actually has potential to attract more tourists but it has to be improved on first. Most visitors feel that Singapore is only nice, with clean streets and lots of greenery. But in the increasingly competitive bid for tourists, being merely nice is just not enough. The best way to rejuvenate the tourist attractions in Singapore is to come up with a unique identity of Singapore using Singapore's rich culture and historical background. In 2001, 46% of the purpose of visitor arrivals was due to holidays, a substantial percentage. Therefore, as Mr Edmund Chua, STB's regional director for Greater China said, "The perception of Singapore as a holiday destination needs to be further deepened and strengthened beyond being known as a nice place."
