The Secret Life of Bees, by Sue Monk Kidd, is the unforgettable story of a fourteen year old girl, Lily Owens, who goes on a quest to uncover the mystery of her mother's death and ends up finding much, much more. Set in 1964, during the civil right movement, in South Carolina, Lily finds herself in some rather sticky the predicaments. However, Lily shines through and in the end brings with her new friends, family and sense of self.

Lily has only one memory of her mother's death and that is of the day she died. Lily remembers going into her parents bedroom to find out why her parents were fighting. When she entered, Lily saw a suit case on the bed and a gun on the floor. Lily picked up the gun and the only thing she remembers after that is a loud noise. Other than that one...
