"Educating Rita" by Willy Russel is an intriguing drama that explores a number of complex issues throughout its course. On the surface the play seems to deal with only the larger, more apparent issues of sexism, identity and education, but as we dwell deeper into the hidden meanings littered throughout the story, we find that it is really a journey of self-discovery, a conflict in what it really means to be educated, and the liberation of women from the patriarchal society which dominates much of our world today.
