Summary: An analysis of 'Spring Offensive,' a poem by British WWI poet Wilfrid Owen. Demonstrates how Owen's precise choice of words, style and poetic structure convey the idea of war as an unnatural event.
Recently I have been studying the work of the great war poet, Wilfrid Owen. His poems deal with the grim realities of war. He creates these amazing poems with a mixture of his great structure and style, which impressed me greatly. The poem which impressed me most was `Spring Offensive'.

Owen uses a lot of interesting techniques and styles to get across the message that war is unnatural. During this poem there is a strong connection with nature. The title `Spring Offensive' shows an unnatural combination. The two words contrast greatly as spring is not normally associated with war. It shows how unnatural war is. Also, spring is associated with birth and many people are about to be killed in this war. At first there is comfort and peace in the poem as the soldiers who were `lying easy' and `carelessly slept' felt safe. They were encouraged and...
