Pride and Prejudice, by Jane Austen, is written with the purpose of showing the reader the importance of society in the novel's time. Miss Elizabeth Bennet is lively woman whose family's financial situation and whose attitudes propose that she will never marry. Mr. Darcy is a rigid and proper man who is very affect by what society has to say about his friends and spouse. But the two ignore society and continue their relationship. They go through some rough patches due to their differences in class. But in the end of the book they contradict society showing that it can be ignored. Austen shows us that society plays a major role on many different aspects of book.
