Mangroves
At the mouth of the river, the mangroves and mudflats are where the ocean begins, they provide a natural nursery for more organisms per square metre than anywhere else in the ocean.
The mangroves have structurally adapted to their environmental conditions with a large spread of fine roots that stretch out under the soft mud supporting the tree, they also act as strainers catching important topsoils and dangerous wastes as they are washed down the river from towns and farms. The mangroves also have large prop roots that help support the tree and are also home to mangrove worms that get bigger than your arm.
