The main purpose of an expository text is to explore issues that are important within society. However not only do they deliver facts, expository writers also use techniques to persuade the reader to a specific way of thinking. In the expository text "Bombs, Guns and Knives", by Malcolm Brown, the author explores the unresolved issues of lacking human compassion. Brown employs a variety of techniques in order to encourage a particular response from the reader. Brown is attempting to persuade us to agree with him on an issue he feels passionate about.
