One of the greatest eras in poetry, the Romantic Movement produced creative, emotional and imaginative works that stand out in today's collection of literature. Inspired by the concepts of classicism and by the numerous revolutions among European countries and colonies, the romantic period spanned roughly from 1789 to 1824. The major romantic poets consisted of six English poets, one of them being George Gordon, better known as Lord Byron. Lord Byron's many poems display the typical tendencies of romanticism, labelling him as a poet of the romantic era. These features include a rejection of rationality, favouring imagination and the emotions. The beauty of nature is also widely discussed, presenting man as level with nature and not above it, indeed, sometimes below it as civilisation is portrayed negatively.
