Laws are rules and principles of conduct established through parliament legislature or court decisions. Laws made by parliament are known as statutes, and those made by the courts are known as case law or common law, and they also have the ability interpret statutes. The roles of parliament and the courts as lawmakers differ from each other. The dual system of the two bodies working together is one that is inherited from British tradition. Parliament is the superior law-making authority being only answerable to the people. They are able to work together because they have very distinct roles. Neither law-making body, parliament or the courts, is better. They both have their strengths and weaknesses and have an important function operating together to produce effective laws.
