Resonances of Sound Waves Lab Report
Summary: The following is a formal lab report regarding the resonances of sound waves.
Purpose
To Determine the length of the tube in which resonances occurs.
Materials
-Tube
-Water bottle
-Hose
-Tuning Fork
-Water
-Retort stand
Procedure
- Place the already set up retort stands, one holding the tube, and one hold the Water bottle side by side.
- Connect them both with a hose and pour water in to the water bottle
- Hit the tuning fork on the piece of rubber
- Place the tuning fork on top of the tube
- Move the water bottle up and down (changing the water level)
- Change the water level until a you could hear a sound
- Find the length in which the sounds the loudest
- Record the length
Speed of Sound in the Air
Room Temperature at the time: 22º
Speed of Sound in Air(v) = 331+0.59(T)
= 331+0.59(22º)
= 343.98 m/s
The speed of sound at 22º is 343.98 m/s
