Harold Pinter's absurdist play, "The Caretaker",is a clever portrayal of the struggle for power where the three characters of the play jockey for power over one another. Pinter's masterful use of unconventional dramatic techniques and the ways in which the characters vie for power present the concerns of power and authority.
Two characters Aston and Mick are brothers in the play who treat the third character, Davies differently. Davies is a meddlesome old tramp who is rescued and taken in by Aston. Davies is central to the plot as he causes the struggle for power which is based on the authority of the house. The house itself is therefore used by Pinter as a tool that builds up frustration and the fight for power.
