Lord of the Flies was a book written in 1954 by William Golding. In this book Golding tried to establish how the flaws within man can create corruption within society. He demonstrated this connection by having multiple main characters in this story: Ralph, Jack, Piggy, and Simon. Each of Golding's characters symbolized the various aspects of society. Jack represented people's savagery, Ralph optimized civilization and common sense, Piggy was an adult and Simon was the good spirit in people. From the physical appearance, facial expression, and natural surroundings, the boy on the cover was clearly Ralph.
