Summary: The following is an essay about the first part of "Thirty Acres."
At the time many jobs were filled and the economy of Quebec was rising but at the same time a depression spread through Europe for a war was raging. Lucinda made herself a good living and earned a nice wage which helped her family. Farmers grew more and more food to feed those in Europe and helped a great deal. As Euchariste grew older he became more and more of a burden to the community.

Lucinda is the wealthy daughter of the Moisan family. Though she is rich she is not selfish, she was not scared to show off her money. She lived in town and when things where needed she would bring the items to her family on the farm.

"And when her younger sister Orpha needed some piece of finery... they generally asked Lucinda to bring it from town. More often then that she wouldn't take...
