Summary: Essay uses examples of ancient Greek text as well as the Bible to show how justice was viewed at that time.
Justice is presented in different forms by authors throughout history. The stories of The Odyssey and Oedipus the King present a similar type of justice. The Story of Joseph from the Old Testament gives a different approach to justice. The justice in the Greek writing is often swift and harsh, almost direct. The Story of Joseph is more of an indirect punishment on the wrongdoers by rewarding the victim.

In the Odyssey, the members of Odysseus's crew are punished severely, mostly with their lives. The suitors of Penelope, in the absence of Odysseus are all killed regardless of their actual involvement in wrongdoing. There is a lot of direct involvement by the Gods in this epic. They seem to grant permission to a sort of divine justice. The Gods often directly punished people themselves at there own discretion. Many times there are different standards of what are right...
